HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss men’s basketball will travel to Atlanta to face Georgia State on Thursday night, seeking to end a two-game road losing streak. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT at the GSU Convocation Center.
The Golden Eagles, with an 11-9 overall record and a 5-3 mark in Sun Belt play, are coming off losses to Troy and Texas State. They started league play strong, going 5-1 before dropping their last two road contests, according to school officials.
Southern Miss leads the Sun Belt in road wins in over a decade and recently posted wins in its first two conference road games. Tylik Weeks, the league’s top scorer at 17.9 points per game, and Djahi Binet, who has recorded a double-double in each of his last three games, headline the team’s efforts.
Fans can listen to the game on the Southern Miss Radio Network, the Game Day App, or local affiliates. Dave Cohen will call the action on ESPN+, with coverage starting at 6 p.m. CT.
Georgia State has won two of its last three games, including a 77-57 victory over ULM last Saturday. Jelani Hamilton, an Iowa State transfer, leads the Panthers at 17.8 points per game and posted 17 points in the win against ULM. The Panthers rank first in the Sun Belt in free throw percentage at 78.3 percent and are averaging nearly nine three-pointers per game.
This will be the 15th all-time meeting between the programs, with Southern Miss winning the last two matchups, including a 79-71 victory in Atlanta last February. The Golden Eagles are 3-2 on the road against Georgia State overall.
Southern Miss has been effective at the free-throw line this season, making at least 20 free throws in six games, with a season-high 27 in an upset win at Radford. The team boasts a 41-10 record at Reed Green Coliseum since the 2022-23 season and is 7-0 in home openers under head coach Jay Ladner.
Southern Miss will look to rebound from recent road setbacks and continue its strong home performance as it prepares for the contest in Atlanta.
