Southern Miss Men’s Basketball Closes Road Trip at Coastal Carolina

The Southern Miss men’s basketball team will wrap up a four-game road trip Saturday afternoon at Coastal Carolina. The game is set for 12 p.m. CT at the HTC Center in Conway, South Carolina, and will be streamed on ESPN+.

Southern Miss enters the contest with an 11-10 overall record and a 5-4 mark in Sun Belt play. The team has lost three straight road games to Troy, Texas State, and Georgia State. The Golden Eagles started league play 5-1 but have since faced challenges on the road, according to school officials.

Southern Miss secured two wins during its initial Sun Belt road trip, marking its best start in league road games in more than a decade. The team opened Sun Belt play with a 62-54 victory over Louisiana, with Israel Hart scoring a season-high 17 points. Tavaras Weeks recorded his first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds against Ole Miss and was named Sun Belt Player of the Week after earning MVP honors at the Pensacola Invitational.

The team’s season highlights include a 37-point game by Weeks against North Florida, the 11th-most in program history and second-most by a Sun Belt player since 2022-23. Southern Miss previously fell in overtime at South Carolina on Nov. 9, with Weeks scoring a career-high 20 points in that game.

Coastal Carolina enters Saturday with a 12-9 overall record and a 5-4 conference mark. The Chanticleers recently secured their first four-game winning streak of the season, defeating Texas State 72-70. They have won four consecutive road games and are notable for their shooting accuracy, including making at least 10 three-pointers in eight games this season, with a season-high 17 against Virginia Lynchburg.

Second-year coach Justin Gray’s team is 5-3 at home in the HTC Center this season. Coastal Carolina ranks third in the Sun Belt for fewest turnovers per game, averaging 10.1. The series history shows this is the fourth all-time meeting between the teams, with Southern Miss winning the last matchup in the 2025 Sun Belt Tournament.

Southern Miss is 41-10 at Reed Green Coliseum since 2022-23 and has won its last seven home openers under coach Jay Ladner. The team is also known for its free-throw shooting, having made at least 20 free throws in seven games this season.

The game is part of Southern Miss’s busy schedule, which includes non-conference games against teams like South Carolina, Miami, and LSU. Fans can follow updates on social media @SouthernMissMBB or listen on the Southern Miss Radio Network.
