Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Loses Twice at Stetson Spring Invitational

DELAND, Fla. — Southern Miss beach volleyball suffered two defeats on the first day of the Stetson Spring Invitational at the Cooper Beach Volleyball Complex. The Golden Eagles, with a 3-11 record overall, lost to UAB and No. 15 Stetson.

Southern Miss opened the day with a 4-1 loss to UAB. The Blazers took the first and fifth pairings before the Golden Eagles captured their only point with a two-set win at the second flight. UAB secured the dual with a narrow two-set victory at the third pairing. Y-Nhu Do and Iustina Corcoz nearly added a second point for Southern Miss but fell 15-12 in the third set, according to the match records.

Later, Southern Miss faced the host Stetson Hatters, ranked 15th nationally. The Hatters took the first two pairings, but the Golden Eagles rallied. Laurel Dennis and Sadie McAda won a three-set thriller at the top flight, 15-12, to get Southern Miss on the board. However, Stetson clinched the dual after the third and fourth pairings, with the top pair ultimately falling in two sets. Dennis and McAda improved to 8-6 this season with their win, according to the team.

Southern Miss is scheduled to play three more duals Saturday. The team will face Texas A&M–Corpus Christi, Florida Gulf Coast, and North Alabama to close out its two-day stay in DeLand, Florida, the university said.
