Southern Miss Beach Volleyball Heads to Macon for Sun Belt Mid-Season Tournament

The University of Southern Mississippi beach volleyball team is set to participate in the Sun Belt Conference mid-season tournament this weekend at Bear Beach in Macon, Georgia, according to the school’s athletics department. The Golden Eagles, with a record of 7-14, will face four Sun Belt opponents in dual matches, with postseason seeding at stake.

All four of Southern Miss’s matches will be played at Mercer University’s Bear Beach facility. Live stats will be available for each contest to allow fans to follow along. The tournament helps determine seeding for the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Beach Volleyball Championship.

Southern Miss opens the tournament on Friday, March 27, at 8 a.m. Central Time against College of Charleston. The Cougars are 5-13 and finished last season with a 6-21 record. The Golden Eagles will then play Mercer at 10:15 a.m. CT, a team that finished last season with a 24-13 record and is coached by Josh Marsh, in his seventh season.

On Saturday, Southern Miss faces Coastal Carolina at 8 a.m. CT. The Chanticleers are 11-10 and recently posted a 4-1 record at the South Carolina Derby. The Golden Eagles conclude the tournament with a match against UNCW at 12:30 p.m. CT. The Seahawks are 7-13 and sit at 1-1 in Sun Belt play. This matchup marks the teams’ first since UNCW eliminated Southern Miss from last year’s Sun Belt Championship.
