Southern Miss Baseball Sweeps Louisiana Tech, Ostrander Earns 100th Win

RUSTON, La. — Southern Miss baseball capped a three-game series sweep of Louisiana Tech on Sunday with a 6-2 victory at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park, extending their winning streak to 10 games. The win marked the Golden Eagles’ first sweep of the Bulldogs since 2019 and secured head coach Christian Ostrander’s 100th career victory.

Ostrander, in his 137th game as Southern Miss’s head coach, became the fastest in program history to reach 100 wins, surpassing coaches Pete Taylor, Scott Berry, Corky Palmer, and Hill Denson. “I am very honored to lead this program,” Ostrander said. “It’s a collective effort from players, coaches, and support staff. I am humbled to be part of this team’s success.”

Joey Urban led the offense with a home run and three RBIs, including a solo shot in the ninth inning to seal the game. The Golden Eagles’ pitching staff, consisting of relievers Camden Sunstrom, Kros Sivley, and Camden Clark, combined to allow only five hits over six shutout innings, with Clark earning his third save.

Southern Miss took an early lead with a run in the first inning. Ben Higdon doubled and Urban singled to drive in the run. Trey Hawsey hit two home runs for Louisiana Tech, raising his total to three, but the Golden Eagles retook the lead in the fourth inning and extended it with a solo homer from Matthew Russo in the fifth. Higdon and Urban added insurance runs late, with Urban’s home run in the ninth providing the final margin.

The Golden Eagles (10-1) now prepare for upcoming midweek games against Mississippi State and Nicholls, both scheduled for 6 p.m. on March 3 and 4, respectively.
