Southern Miss baseball routs Louisiana Tech 11-0 in run-rule victory

RUSTON, La. — Grayden Harris threw six scoreless innings as Southern Miss defeated Louisiana Tech 11-0 Saturday evening at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park. The Golden Eagles improved to 9-1 with the win, while the Bulldogs fell to 8-3.

Southern Miss scored early and often. Tucker Stockman drove in four runs, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Harris allowed just three hits, struck out five and earned his second win of the season. Drake Meeks pitched a perfect seventh inning, striking out the last batter, in the team’s first combined shutout since 2005.

The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Stockman’s sacrifice fly scored Joey Urban, who reached on a single. Kyle Morrison then walked with the bases loaded, ending Louisiana Tech starter Hudson Rowan’s day. Rowan allowed five runs on five hits over 3 2/3 innings, suffering his first loss of the season.

Southern Miss added six more runs over the next three innings. Stockman’s second homer of the year came in the fifth. Matthew Russo drove in two runs in the sixth, and the final three runs came on a double, a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.

The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m., with the Golden Eagles seeking a three-game sweep. Louisiana Tech’s next game is Tuesday against a different opponent.
