The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team travels to Hammond, Louisiana, for a Tuesday night game against Southeastern Louisiana. The contest is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Pat Kennelly Stadium at Alumni Field. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and broadcast on Southern Miss Sports Network affiliates, according to university athletics.

Southern Miss (2-1) enters its first road game after winning its final two games of the opening series against UC Santa Barbara. Joey Urban hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning Saturday, and Matthew Russo’s bases-loaded walk in the ninth secured the series victory. The Golden Eagles also defeated UC Santa Barbara 6-5 on Sunday with a walk-off win.

Southeastern Louisiana (0-3) was swept at home by Kent State in its season opener, including a 14-7 loss in the final game. The two programs are meeting for the first of two games this season, with the second set for March 31 in Hattiesburg. The schools have faced each other annually since 2021.

Southern Miss has won the last three meetings with the Lions, including two close games last season. Nick Monistere hit a ninth-inning grand slam in Hammond to give the Golden Eagles an 8-7 victory, and he also homered in the bottom of the ninth at The Pete for another win. Offensively, Joe Urban led the team with a .455 batting average in the series, while Drey Barrett hit .417. Russo drove in four runs during the series, and Southern Miss hit six home runs in three games, continuing its strong power hitting from last season.

On the mound, sophomore right-hander Camden Sunstrom will start for Southern Miss. He has a 6.75 ERA in limited action. Southeastern Louisiana will counter with sophomore left-hander Nik Toups, who has an 18.00 ERA through three appearances.

Following the game, Southern Miss will travel to Texas for the Round Rock Classic, where they will face Purdue on Friday at 2 p.m., Oregon State on Saturday at 5 p.m., and Baylor on Sunday at 3 p.m.
