Southern Miss Baseball Heads to Texas for Round Rock Classic
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Miss Baseball is set for a four-game road trip this weekend at the Round Rock Classic in Texas. The event features matchups against Purdue, Oregon State, and Baylor at Dell Diamond, home of the Texas Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate.
The Golden Eagles open the tournament Friday at 2 p.m. against Purdue. They then face Oregon State at 5 p.m. Saturday and conclude the weekend Sunday at 3 p.m. All games will be streamed via D1Baseball.com for a fee and broadcast on Southern Miss Sports Network affiliates and SouthernMiss.com, according to the university.
Southern Miss (3-1) enters the weekend riding a three-game winning streak after defeating Southeastern Louisiana 3-1 Tuesday. Joey Urban led the team with a .538 batting average, going 5-for-5 at the plate with three walks. Matthew Russo also contributed with a team-high five RBIs that night.
The team will rely on the same starting pitchers for the series. Senior right-hander Colby Allen (0-1, 5.40 ERA) will start Friday. Sophomore left-hander Grayden Harris (0-0, 12.00 ERA) is scheduled for Saturday, and redshirt sophomore right-hander McCarty English (0-0, 3.00 ERA) will pitch Sunday, the team announced.
Purdue holds a 2-2 record after a 5-2 loss to Rice on Wednesday. Oregon State is 3-1, with wins over Arizona, Stanford, and Michigan. Baylor is undefeated at 4-0, with victories over New Mexico State and Texas State.
Southern Miss will look to extend its winning streak during the tournament, with the first game against Purdue scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m.
