Southeastern Louisiana defeats Southern Miss 5-1 at Pete Taylor Park

Southeastern Louisiana handed No. 8 Southern Miss a 5-1 loss Tuesday night at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Lions, now 17-12, ended a four-game losing streak against the Golden Eagles, who fell to 21-8.

Brody Capps highlighted Southeastern Louisiana’s win with a two-run homer in the fourth inning. The Lions scored four runs in that frame, including Capps’ blast off the videoboard in left-center field. The Lions added a final run in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk issued to Williams.

Southern Miss starter Kros Sivley allowed four runs on four hits over three-plus innings and took the loss to fall to 3-2. Luke Lirette pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings for Southeastern Louisiana to improve to 2-1. The Golden Eagles managed just five hits and stranded 10 runners in the game.

The Golden Eagles scored their only run in the eighth when Joey Urban singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and Ben Higdon drove him in with a single. Despite the late rally, Southern Miss left two runners on base in the inning. The team has not been shut out at home since June 12, 2023, during the NCAA Super Regional against Tennessee.

Southern Miss returns to Sun Belt Conference play Thursday through Saturday at Old Dominion. The game was played at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
