Santodomingo Wins National Diving Title at NCAA Championships

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Santiago Santodomingo of Delta State University won the men’s 3-meter diving event at the NCAA Division II Championships on Friday, scoring 622.75 points. The sophomore improved on his preliminary score and held off competitors from Colorado Mesa and Wayne State to earn the national title, adding 20 team points for the Statesmen.

In the pool, senior Janne Bodemer finished sixth in the women’s 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:59.97, earning All-America honors and 13 points for the Lady Statesmen. Delta State also placed three swimmers in the top 13 of the women’s 100-yard backstroke, with Kennedy Cleasant finishing ninth in 54.74 seconds, Kaley Davis 11th in 55.48 seconds, and Olivia Murphy 13th in 55.55 seconds.

The Lady Statesmen concluded the evening with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Zinna Nimander, Ave Owens, Aspen Shipp and Murphy finished in 1:31.65, earning 30 team points and narrowly missing the podium.

Several Delta State swimmers competed in Friday’s preliminaries. Mateus Franco finished 21st in the men’s 500 freestyle. Chloe Skelt placed 17th in the women’s 100 breaststroke, while Jacob Hamblen and Ethan Baylin finished 19th and 25th, respectively, in the men’s 100 breaststroke. Kacper Mochnal finished 19th in the men’s 200 butterfly. The championships will conclude Saturday with the final day of competition.
