Samford Bulldog Open Sets Two School Records for MUW Track and Field

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Mississippi University for Women track and field teams set two school records Saturday at the Samford University Bulldog Open at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

The meet served as the final tune-up before the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) indoor championships scheduled for Feb. 27-28 in Elsah, Illinois.

Freshman Malachi Morgan broke his own record in the men’s long jump with a leap of 6.89 meters, surpassing his previous mark of 6.59 meters set nearly a month ago at the same venue. Morgan finished fourth out of 34 competitors in the event. His jump is currently the top mark in the SLIAC for the 2025-26 season, by more than four inches. Morgan also holds the conference’s best height in the men’s high jump, according to team sources.

On the women’s side, sophomore Armoni King set a school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.02, beating the previous record of 1:03.48 set by Vonisha Towns at the 2024 SLIAC championships.

In addition to these record-breaking performances, 12 Owls achieved personal bests in their events, ending the season on a strong note ahead of the conference championships.
