Owls Softball Sweeps Lyon to Stay Perfect in SLIAC Play

Mississippi University for Women’s softball team remains undefeated in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play after sweeping Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas. The Owls won 11-3 in six innings and 7-3, maintaining a perfect league record at 6-0.

Both MUW and Webster University share the conference lead with 6-0 records. Greenville University and Spalding University also have undefeated SLIAC records, with 4-0 and 2-0, respectively, according to the conference.

In both games, MUW took early leads and never looked back. The Owls’ top five batters — Gillion Eaves, Madison York, Addison Owen, Kaylee Crawford, and Brooklyn Rhodes — combined for 16 of the team’s 23 hits, including seven doubles and four triples. They drove in 13 runs across the two games.

Owen, batting third, led the offensive charge, going 5-for-6 with a double, triple, and four runs scored. She also drove in four runs and raised her batting average to .507 for the season. Owen has 15 multi-hit games this year, including both contests at Lyon.

Leadoff hitter Eaves went 2-for-9 but scored three runs, drew a walk, and stole two bases. York was 4-for-7 with three doubles, a triple, five runs scored, and two RBIs. Crawford was 2-for-4 in both games, with a double, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Rhodes, who pitched in game two and was the designated hitter in game one, went 3-for-8 with three doubles and four RBIs.

Rhodes improved her personal record to 4-4 after pitching seven innings in game two, allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts and two walks. In game one, freshman Trinity Garvin earned her second straight SLIAC win, going six innings with five strikeouts and one walk.

The Owls are scheduled to face Eureka College in a doubleheader Sunday at 10 a.m. on the road, continuing their league schedule.
