Owls Men’s Basketball Beats Principia 77-61 to Maintain Third Place

ELSAH, Ill. — Missouri Western State University’s women’s basketball team remained in third place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings after a 77-61 road victory at Principia College. The Owls (12-10, 8-5 SLIAC) kept their postseason hopes alive with the win over the Panthers (4-19, 2-12 SLIAC) at the Hay Field House.

The first half was closer than anticipated, with Missouri Western leading 37-30 at halftime. However, a strong start to the second half allowed the Owls to pull away. Over the first 7 minutes and 12 seconds of the third quarter, Missouri Western outscored Principia 24-4, building a 61-34 lead after a three-pointer from Tray Huguley.

Huguley was instrumental in the win, scoring 16 of his 30 points during the second-half run. He finished the game with a team-high 30 points on 11-of-15 shooting, including two three-pointers, and made 6 of 7 free throws. Huguley also led all players with 13 rebounds, marking his 14th double-double of the season and extending his streak of double-digit scoring to 20 consecutive games. He added two blocks, two steals, and three assists in a well-rounded effort.

Fellow sophomore Joe Haze Austin contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block. Senior Trent Walker added 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Tyler Bohanan scored eight points, while Jackson Reid led the team with four assists and added six rebounds.

The Owls will remain on the road for a game against Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, on Monday at 7:30 p.m. The contest is a makeup game postponed earlier in the season due to weather.
