Owls Earn Three SLIAC Weekly Track and Field Honors
Mississippi University for Women’s track and field team earned three of four weekly awards from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the period of March 15-22, 2026, the conference announced Monday.
The Owls competed at the Belhaven Invitational last Saturday, sweeping both women’s awards. Junior Hannah Owens was named the top performer in the 5,000-meter run, setting a school record with a time of 20:11.94. She improved her previous best by more than 17 seconds and ranks second in the SLIAC this season.
Junior Arie’Onna McCollum earned the women’s field athlete of the week honor after winning the javelin with a toss of 35.96 meters, surpassing her own record of 35.27 meters. McCollum also placed fifth in both the discus and hammer throw.
On the men’s side, freshman Malachi Morgan was named the top field performer after recording an MUW record leap of 7.06 meters in the long jump, slightly surpassing his previous best of 7.05 meters. Morgan also finished second in the high jump at 2.00 meters and placed ninth in the 100-meter dash.
Head coach Dedrick Burnett expressed pride in his athletes’ performances, noting Owens’ return from a brief break and McCollum’s continued improvement. Burnett also praised Morgan’s consistency in clearing seven meters in the long jump and two meters in the high jump.
