Owls dominate Millsaps 30-6 for sixth straight win

JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi University for Women’s baseball team scored 30 runs in a non-conference victory over Millsaps College at Twenty Field. The Owls (9-5) won their sixth straight game, defeating the Majors (6-9) in a contest that saw explosive offensive production.

The game’s early stages were close, with MUW leading 8-1 after three and a half innings. Millsaps rallied to make it 8-4 through five innings, but the Owls erupted in the later innings, scoring seven, two, eight and five runs in the final four at-bats, respectively.

The 30 runs marked the second-highest in school history, behind only a 33-run game against Fontbonne University in 2025. The team also recorded 50 at-bats, 25 hits, and 28 RBIs, all second-best single-game totals for MUW, trailing only last season’s performance against Fontbonne.

Senior Matthew Windham led the offensive surge, going 6-for-8 with two doubles, a grand slam, five runs scored and seven RBIs. His six hits set a school record, while his five runs scored became a new team mark and his seven RBIs rank second in school history for a game. Windham’s eight at-bats tied a school record.

Other standouts included Zach Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored, and Jay Marbutt, who collected three hits, including a double, along with two runs and an RBI. Freshman Griffin Fuller drew three walks, while Chase Marshall homered for the second consecutive game, giving him three home runs this season. Baron Brack and Elliott Turbyfill also contributed offensively, each with two hits and multiple RBIs. Speedy sophomore Swayze Rikard drove in three runs and scored three more.

The teams combined to use 18 pitchers, with MUW’s Joseph Gantt earning the win after tossing two scoreless, hitless innings of relief. Dylon Lozano took the loss for Millsaps, as both teams prepared for upcoming games. MUW is set to face Aurora University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on their trip to Arizona early next week.
