Ole Miss Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 3 Texas A&M, 4-1

Ole Miss women’s tennis was defeated by No. 3 Texas A&M, 4-1, in Oxford on Friday night. The match took place at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.

In doubles, Ole Miss (9-8, 3-7 SEC) grabbed the early lead on court one, with No. 23 Emily Welker and Andrea Nova defeating No. 8 Mia Kupres and Lucciana Perez, 6-3. However, Texas A&M responded with wins on courts two and three, securing the doubles point. No. 75 Violeta Martinez and Ilinca Amariei beat Alice Soulié and Riley Crowder, 6-4, and Lexington Reed and Daria Smetannikov edged Ichino Horikawa and Beatrice Stagno, 6-4.

In singles, the Aggies quickly added a second point when No. 2 Perez defeated Welker, 7-5, 6-3. Crowder responded with a victory over Reed, 6-3, 6-4, to put the Rebels on the scoreboard. But Texas A&M clinched the win as No. 96 Martinez defeated Horikawa, 6-2, 6-3; No. 54 Amariei beat Nova, 4-6, 6-0, 6-4; and No. 15 Kupres topped Welker, 7-5, 6-3.

Matches on courts two and six were unfinished, with Soulié close to a ranked victory against Kupres and Stagno in a tight match against Smetannikov. Ole Miss will host No. 7 Texas on Sunday at 1 p.m. Central Time at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
