Ole Miss Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 23 Florida in Close Match at ITA Kickoff Weekend
RALEIGH, N.C. — The University of Mississippi women’s tennis team fell 4-2 to No. 23 Florida on Monday at the NC State ITA Kickoff Weekend.
Ole Miss started strong in doubles, highlighted by a marathon match on court three. Andrea Nova and Emily Welker battled Florida’s India Houghton and Emily Seibold to a tiebreak, which Florida won 7-6 (6-4). Courts two and three went to the Gators.
In singles, the Rebels responded with two victories. Emily Welker defeated Seibold 6-4, 6-2 on court one, while Alice Soulié secured a win over Houghton, 7-6 (15-13), 6-2, on court three.
Despite the loss, Ole Miss showed competitiveness against a top-ranked opponent, providing momentum for upcoming conference matches. The team will continue its season with matches against several SEC opponents.
Results from Monday’s match included Florida’s Valery Gynina defeating Brooklyn Olson 6-4, 6-2, and Gabia Paskauskas beating Andrea Nova 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Ole Miss will return to action soon, with upcoming matches scheduled against Illinois, Memphis, LSU, and other conference rivals, according to team schedules.
