Ole Miss Women’s Tennis Defeats Arkansas 6-1 in Fayetteville
The Ole Miss women’s tennis team defeated Arkansas 6-1 on Sunday at the Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville, ending its five-match losing streak, according to the university.
The Rebels, ranked 41st nationally, opened the match strongly, taking the doubles point with wins from Brooklyn Olson and Beatrice Stagno, and from Andrea Nova and Emily Welker. Nova and Welker, ranked 85th, defeated the No. 22 duo of Caroli Gomez Alonso and Anet Koskel 6-4. Olson and Stagno topped Arina Babenko and Panagiotidou 6-3.
In singles, Ole Miss continued its dominance. Alice Soulie defeated Brooke Schafer 6-1, 6-3. Emily Welker, ranked 12th, beat No. 23 Gomez 6-3, 6-2. Nova clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Panagiotidou. Arkansas won one singles match on its courts, but Olson and Ichino Horikawa secured additional wins for the Rebels, sealing the victory.
The Rebels, now 7-6 overall and 2-5 in SEC play, will face Vanderbilt in Nashville on Thursday. Ole Miss’s next home match is scheduled for April 4 against Alabama.
