Ole Miss Women’s Golf Opens Spring Season at Puerto Rico Classic

The No. 15 Ole Miss women’s golf team kicks off its spring season at the Puerto Rico Classic, held from Feb. 1-3 at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande. The Rebels aim for their third straight trip to the NCAA postseason, with the tournament featuring 18 teams, including five ranked in the top 25 by Clippd.

The event includes 36 holes Sunday, 18 Monday, and potentially the final 18 Tuesday. Rain is forecasted throughout the tournament. Ole Miss has competed at the Puerto Rico Classic for three consecutive years and looks to secure its third team title of the season.

Ole Miss’s lineup features Kajsalotta Svarvar, Mary Miller, Sophie Linder, Matilda Björkman, Nicole Gal, and Filippa Sundquist, with some competing as individuals. Svarvar, a sophomore, posted a career-low 54-hole score of 203 (-10) at the Cougar Classic. Miller, a sophomore, has two top-10 finishes this season. Linder, a junior, averages 72.18 strokes per round, with five rounds under par.

The field includes notable teams such as Arkansas, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, and others. Ole Miss returns 75% of its roster from last season, including senior Nicole Gal, who finished T8 at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational. Freshmen Björkman and transfer Miller have already made impactful debuts this season.

Ole Miss secured two tournament wins last fall, including back-to-back victories at the Cougar Classic and the Darius Rucker Invitational. Under head coach Kory Henkes, the team hopes to continue its strong performance and advance in postseason play.
