Ole Miss Track Star Jordan Urrutia Breaks 200-Meter Record at New Mexico Classic

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Ole Miss track and field athlete Jordan Urrutia continued his impressive indoor season, breaking his own school record in the 200-meter dash during the New Mexico Classic on Friday, according to the university.

Urrutia, a sophomore, had already made headlines last Saturday at Clemson by running 20.89 seconds in the 200 meters, becoming only the second Rebel to break 21 seconds indoors. He shattered that mark Friday with a time of 20.60 seconds, finishing third overall in a highly competitive invitational heat. When adjusted for altitude, his time ranks eighth in the NCAA and the United States this season, and fourth in the Southeastern Conference, per school officials.

Ole Miss had a strong showing in the event, with four athletes setting personal records. Wesley Todd ran a PR of 21.08 seconds (21.15 adjusted), placing 11th in the open section and moving into fourth all-time in Ole Miss indoor history. Tarique Wright followed with a time of 21.22 seconds, and Dekell Minor and Joshua Knox also posted personal bests, finishing 26th and 27th respectively.

In the women’s competition, freshman Patchnalie Compere finished fourth in her section at 23.46 seconds, while senior Alicia Burnett made her Ole Miss debut with a time of 23.75 seconds, ranking her 10th in school history indoors. The Rebels also excelled in field events, with junior Mary Cate Doughty winning the women’s pole vault at 12 feet 11.5 inches (3.95 meters) and senior Arvesta Troupe earning his second high jump title of the season at 7 feet 2.25 inches (2.19 meters).

Competition resumes Saturday morning at 10:20 a.m. CT, beginning with the men’s heptathlon. Ole Miss athletes continue to impress as they chase national and conference titles this season, officials said.
