Ole Miss Track & Field’s Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan Shines in Season Opener with Record-Breaking Hammer Throw

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss senior Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan delivered a standout performance in the hammer throw at the season-opening Ole Miss Classic on Friday. His mark of 254-8 (77.62 meters) broke the facility and school records and ranks as the second-best all-time by an American-born collegian.

Robinson-O’Hagan, who recently won his fourth NCAA shot put title, made his first hammer competition since last summer’s U.S. Outdoor Championships. He opened with a near personal record of 248-3 (75.67 meters), then improved to 247-7 (75.46 meters) in the second round before unleashing his record-breaking throw in the third round.

The throw ranks as the best early collegiate season mark (March 20) and places Robinson-O’Hagan second in SEC history, 11th in collegiate history and 16th in American history. His performance also solidifies his position as the top American in 2026 and eighth worldwide. The effort advances his collegiate outdoor record in shot and hammer combined to 98.50 meters, making him the first collegiate athlete to surpass 98 meters in outdoor throws.

Seniors Bryson Smith (67.16 meters) and Mason Hickel (65.53 meters) posted strong openers, finishing second and third, respectively. In the women’s hammer, five Rebels qualified for the final, led by All-American Akaoma Odeluga, who threw 64.38 meters (211-2). Nyah Edwards set a personal best with a throw of 59.17 meters (194-1) in her outdoor debut, ranking her tenth in Ole Miss history.

On the track, redshirt freshman Zion Lockette won the women’s 200 meters in an all-conditions personal record of 23.49 seconds. Freshman Myla Reed finished second with a wind-legal 24.03 seconds. Senior Lizzie Hatton and Indya Dotson also posted PRs in the 200, with Hatton winning the long jump at 6.28 meters (20-7.25).

The men’s 2000-meter steeplechase was won by Sergio Del Barrio (5:36.93) and Samuel Ferguson (5:53.95). The women’s pole vault saw Ole Miss sweep the top four spots, led by transfer Rachel Homoly at 4.00 meters (13-1.5). Doughty and Hulsey also cleared the height, with Doughty tying her outdoor PR. The Rebels continue competition Saturday with the women’s high jump and discus.
