Ole Miss Tennis Player Gordon Whitwell Earns SEC Community Service Honor

Oxford, Mississippi – Ole Miss men’s tennis senior Gordon Whitwell has been named to the SEC Community Service Team for the second consecutive year, the Southeastern Conference announced Thursday.

The SEC Community Service Team recognizes student-athletes across the conference for their community service efforts beyond athletics. Whitwell is one of 13 individuals selected this season from the men’s tennis program.

Whitwell has been active in numerous community initiatives, including Feed the Sip, a food sustainability project within the Stronger Together Mississippi Initiative. He has also helped distribute non-perishable food items to elementary students in Tunica and Quitman counties. Additionally, he participates in Reading with the Rebels, which promotes literacy across Mississippi.

The senior from Oxford, Mississippi, also volunteers with Adopt a Basket and the elementary morning carpool program. He is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and consistently seeks ways to give back to his community, the university said.

Ole Miss men’s tennis will conclude the regular season this weekend with matches against No. 19 Auburn on Friday, April 10, at 3 p.m. CT, and No. 22 Kentucky on Sunday, April 12, at noon at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center. Whitwell’s leadership and dedication to service make him a deserving recipient of the award, the university added.
