Ole Miss Softball to Face No. 2 Texas in Austin Series

The University of Mississippi softball team is set to open SEC play on the road against No. 2 Texas at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin. The series begins Friday at 5:30 p.m. CT, with games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at noon. All contests will be streamed via SEC Network Plus, according to the university.

Ole Miss enters the series with a 19-8 record and is seeking its first ranked victory of the season and its first win in Austin. The Rebels have a 0-3 record in SEC play after losses to Georgia, Alabama, and LSU. Texas boasts a 23-1 record and is undefeated in conference play at 3-0.

Freshman Madi George has emerged as a star this season, hitting .427 with eight home runs and 16 walks through 27 games. Sophomore Persy Llamas also continues her strong performance, batting .411 with five home runs and 26 RBIs. Ole Miss has hit 34 home runs in 2026, averaging 1.26 per game, and boasts a solid defensive record, being 12-1 when not committing errors.

The Rebels have played 11-5 outside of Oxford and have 18 remaining games against top-25 RPI teams, including nine on the road. The series against Texas marks a significant test as Ole Miss looks to build momentum in SEC play.

Three Rebels—George, Llamas, and Mackenzie Pickens—have been recognized on Softball America’s March Position Power Rankings. George is ranked as the No. 11 utility player nationally, Llamas as the No. 12 first baseman, and Pickens as the No. 14 second baseman.

Texas features a potent offense led by junior Katie Stewart, who has 14 home runs and a .492 batting average. The Longhorns’ pitching staff, led by Teagan Kavan, who is 9-0 with a 1.96 ERA, continues to perform at a high level. Texas remains a top contender in pursuit of a second consecutive national championship.
