Ole Miss Softball No-Hitter Highlights Friday Doubleheader Sweep

OLE MISS, La. — The Ole Miss softball team swept a doubleheader Friday at the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational, highlighted by a no-hitter from Lilly Whitten and a milestone victory for head coach Jamie Trachsel.

In the first game, No. 21 Ole Miss defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 8-0 in six innings. Whitten pitched a no-hitter, striking out two and generating multiple double plays. The Rebels took an early lead, with key hits from Taylor Malvin, Cassie Reasner, and Makenna Bellaire fueling the run-rule victory, which marked Whitten’s fourth appearance as a Rebel.

Whitten’s dominant performance included retiring all six batters she faced in the final inning, securing her first no-hitter of the season. Her offense supported her effort with timely hitting, including a RBI single by George in the sixth inning to seal the game.

Later, Ole Miss defeated Louisiana 5-2. The Rebels jumped ahead early with a solo home run from Pickens. Despite Louisiana taking a brief lead in the third, Ole Miss responded with four consecutive hits in the top of the fourth, including RBI singles from Llamas and Pickens, to regain the lead for good. Kyra Aycock pitched a complete game, allowing only two unearned runs and striking out four.

Aycock’s performance helped the Rebels extend their lead with key hits from Malvin and George. She also made a crucial defensive play to close out the game, earning her third win of the season. With this victory, Trachsel became Ole Miss’s winningest coach, surpassing her previous record with her 188th win.

The Rebels are set to face Louisiana again Saturday at 1:30 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on ESPN Plus. Ole Miss continues its season with a mix of non-conference games and SEC matchups.
