Ole Miss Softball Falls to No. 4 Alabama in SEC Opening Doubleheader
OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against No. 4 Alabama on Friday at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium. The Rebels are now 18-7 overall and 0-2 in SEC play.
In the first game, Ole Miss nearly upset the undefeated Crimson Tide but fell 5-3. Alabama scored early with a two-run home run, but the Rebels responded quickly. Cassie Reasner singled, and Taylor Roman hit a two-run homer to tie the game at 2-2. Alabama took the lead again with a solo shot in the third inning. The Rebels rallied in the fourth, with Reasner walking, Kennedy Bunker doubling, and Grace Thompson driving in a sacrifice fly to knot the game at 3-3.
However, Alabama regained the lead in the fifth inning with bases-loaded walks, scoring two runs to go ahead 5-3. Reasner collected three hits in the game, but Ole Miss was unable to score further and fell in the opener.
The second game was less competitive, as Alabama scored nine runs in the first three innings. Ole Miss scored two runs in the third inning, with singles from Taylor Malvin, Mackenzie Pickens, Persy Llamas, and an RBI from Reasner. The Crimson Tide extended its lead with four runs in the sixth, securing a 13-2 victory in six innings.
The teams will conclude the series Sunday at 1 p.m. CT, with the game streamed via SEC Network Plus. Ole Miss will look to bounce back after the losses as SEC play continues.
