Ole Miss Softball Falls to No. 4 Alabama 2-1 in Seventh-Inning Comeback Attempt

Oxford, Miss. — Ole Miss softball’s comeback effort fell just short Sunday afternoon, as the Rebels lost 2-1 to No. 4 Alabama at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.

Both teams’ pitchers commanded from the start. Emilee Boyer of Ole Miss held Alabama at bay with three strikeouts through the first two innings. The Tide threatened in the third, loading the bases with one out, but Boyer recorded a groundout and a strikeout to escape unscathed.

Alabama took the lead in the fourth inning with an RBI single. Despite Persy Llamas breaking up the no-hitter in the bottom half, Alabama added another run to make it 2-0. Boyer finished with eight strikeouts over seven innings, keeping the game within reach for Ole Miss.

In the seventh, the Rebels mounted a rally. Llamas singled for her second hit of the game, and Cassie Reasner followed with an infield single. Taylor Roman then drove in a run with a single up the middle, trimming Alabama’s lead to 2-1. However, Alabama closed the game with a strikeout, ending the rally and securing the win.

Ole Miss (18-8, 0-3 SEC) will travel to North Alabama for a midweek game Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT, streamed on ESPN Plus. The Rebels continue SEC play next weekend against Tennessee in a series in Knoxville.
