Ole Miss Softball Falls to No. 2 Texas in Second Game of Series
The Ole Miss softball team suffered an 11-2 defeat against No. 2 Texas on Saturday at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin, according to the university’s athletics department. The Rebels, now 19-10 overall and 0-5 in Southeastern Conference play, scored first but were unable to contain the Longhorns’ offensive surge.
Ole Miss took an early lead in the second inning, with a single from Cassie Reasner driving in the team’s first run. Taylor Roman followed with an RBI double, giving the Rebels a 1-0 advantage. Texas responded quickly, tying the game with an RBI single from Katie Stewart in the bottom half of the inning.
The Longhorns took control with a three-run third inning, extending their lead to 4-1. They added three more runs in the fourth to go up 7-1, and increased their lead further in the fifth to 8-1. Roman hit a solo home run in the sixth, making it 8-2, but Texas responded with a three-run homer to close out the game at 11-2.
Roman finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and was a triple shy of the cycle. Despite a loaded bases situation in the sixth, the Rebels could not add to their score. The series concludes Sunday with a 12 p.m. game streamed on SEC Network Plus.
Ole Miss’s next scheduled games include matchups against Louisiana Tech, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, with details available on the team’s official website and social media channels.
