Oxford, Miss. — The Ole Miss softball team lost a close game to No. 13 Texas A&M, 7-5, on Saturday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium. The Rebels (26-17, 2-12 SEC) out-hit the Aggies (29-12, 10-4 SEC) and hit three home runs but couldn’t overcome a key four-run third inning by Texas A&M.

Texas A&M took an early lead with an RBI sacrifice fly in the first inning. Emilee Boyer limited further damage, allowing the Rebels to respond quickly. Cassie Reasner homered in the second inning to tie the game at 1. The Aggies responded with a three-run homer from Kelsey Mathis in the third, giving Texas A&M a 4-1 lead.

Ole Miss chipped away at the deficit in the bottom of the third. Kennedy Bunker hit a solo home run on the first pitch, making it 4-2. Later, Ryan Starr singled, and Mackenzie Pickens doubled to score Starr, trimming the lead to 5-3. Persy Llamas then launched a two-run homer, tying the game at 5-5.

Texas A&M regained the lead in the fifth inning, scoring two runs on walks and a grounder amid a collision on the base paths. Boyer managed to keep the Aggies from adding to their lead afterward. The Rebels made a final rally in the seventh, with Llamas and Madi George reaching base, but a back-pick at second ended the game with the tying run stranded.

The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. CT, with the game streamed on SEC Network Plus. Ole Miss will aim to even the series against the Aggies in the final matchup.
