Ole Miss Softball Faces North Alabama in Tuesday Night Matchup
The University of Mississippi softball team is set to play its first-ever game in Florence, Alabama, on Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT against North Alabama. The Rebels (18-8, 0-3 SEC) will face the Lions (17-4, 0-0 ASUN) in a non-conference contest that marks the beginning of a four-game road swing.
Ole Miss is coming off a 10-game homestand and has been led by standout performances from freshmen and sophomores. Madi George, a freshman, is batting .417 with seven home runs and 23 RBIs in her first 26 games. Sophomore Persy Llamas is hitting .430 with five home runs and 26 RBIs. Llamas also leads the team with 37 hits.
The Rebels’ defense has been a strength, with a 12-1 record when not committing errors. Junior Cassie Reasner has improved defensively, leading the SEC with infield assists. Offensively, Ole Miss has a .375 start in SEC play, and coach Jamie Trachsel emphasizes the importance of road games as the team prepares for more top-10 opponents.
North Alabama has been impressive this season, with key players including Miami transfer Holly Merritt, who has eight home runs and 31 RBIs, and junior Briley Dover, who is batting .465 with six homers. The Lions’ pitching staff is led by senior Katie Simon and fifth-year lefty Alivia Wilken. North Alabama’s only losses this season have been to Troy, Lindenwood, Belmont, and South Alabama.
