Ole Miss Softball Edges Samford Behind Long Balls
OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss softball team beat Samford 6-2 Tuesday at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium, improving to 26-15 overall. The Rebels overcame an early two-run deficit with timely hitting and dominant pitching from Emilee Boyer, who pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts, according to school officials.
Samford scored twice in the first inning, aided by an Ole Miss error. The Rebels responded in the bottom half of the inning, with a leadoff double from Madi George and an RBI single from Cassie Reasner, cutting the lead to 2-1. Boyer settled in afterward, allowing no runs over the next three innings.
Ole Miss tied the game in the second inning when George doubled, and Taylor Roman drove her home with a sacrifice fly. A challenge by head coach Jamie Trachsel helped preserve the tie after a potential bases-loaded situation was nullified by interference call against Samford.
The Rebels took the lead in the fifth inning when George hit her team-leading 11th home run of the season, a shot that broke the game open at 5-2. In the sixth, Rachel Connors added her second home run of the season, extending the lead to 6-2. Boyer closed out the game in the seventh, securing her 10th strikeout of the night and the victory.
Ole Miss will return to Southeastern Conference play this weekend, hosting No. 13 Texas A&M for a three-game series starting Friday at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus, and fans are encouraged to join Rebel Rewards for exclusive benefits.
