Ole Miss Softball Defeats Mercer 13-0 in Five Innings

The University of Mississippi softball team, ranked No. 25, defeated Mercer 13-0 in five innings Friday at the Green & Gold Classic in Birmingham, Alabama. The Rebels (8-4) matched their season-high scoring total, driving in 13 runs on 10 hits.

Cassie Reasner led the offensive effort with a home run and three RBIs, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Emilee Boyer pitched four scoreless innings to earn the victory, limiting Mercer to just two hits.

The Rebels jumped ahead early, scoring a run in the first inning after a walk by Mackenzie Pickens and an RBI single from Persy Llamas. Despite bases loaded threats from Mercer in the first inning, a double play by Grace Thompson kept the shutout intact. Boyer then controlled the game from the second inning onward.

In the fourth inning, Ole Miss added to its lead with a series of hits and stolen bases. Tenly Grisham drove in two runs with an RBI single, and Taylor Malvin added another with an RBI single. The Rebels broke the game open with a leadoff home run from Reasner in the fifth, followed by a series of walks and errors that pushed the lead to 13-0.

Graycen Jordan made her collegiate debut, pitching a perfect fifth inning to close out the game. Ole Miss is scheduled to face Southern Illinois and Missouri State on Saturday at the same tournament.
