Ole Miss No. 25 Baseball Hosts Alcorn State at Swayze Field
Ole Miss, ranked No. 25 in the nation, will face Alcorn State on Tuesday night at Swayze Field in Oxford, Mississippi. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m., with coverage available on SEC Network+ and the Ole Miss Radio Network.
The Rebels enter the game with a 22-11 record and are coming off a series win against No. 21 Florida. Last weekend, Ole Miss took two of three games in Gainesville, marking their first road series victory over a ranked opponent since 2022.
Judd Utermark played a key role in the Florida series, hitting a game-tying home run in the ninth inning of the finale. The homer was his 42nd career, placing him third on Ole Miss’s all-time list, trailing only Tim Elko and Kyle Gordon. Utermark has now reached base in 21 consecutive games.
Ole Miss’s offense has been led by Utermark and Tristan Bissetta, who have combined for 27 of the team’s 52 home runs this season. Cade Townsend earned his first quality start of the year on Saturday, allowing just one run over six innings against Florida. The Rebels’ pitching staff has recorded 373 strikeouts this season, second in the SEC and fifth nationally, with a team ERA of 3.75.
Alcorn State, coached by Carlton Hardy in his second season, enters Tuesday with a 7-25 record, including one conference win. The Braves’ top hitter is Jaylyn Bennett, hitting .365 with six doubles and a home run. They have stolen 66 bases this season, led by Kanious Davis with 16. Davis also has pitched in midweek games, posting a 9.64 ERA over 14 innings.
Ole Miss’s roster features standout players such as Bissetta, who was named to the Golden Spikes Midseason Watch List and leads the team in multiple offensive categories. The Rebels also boast a strong start, outscoring opponents 107-60 in the first four innings and holding a 15-1 record when scoring first.
Tuesday’s game will also feature first collegiate home runs for Brett Moseley and Tate Sirmans during opening weekend. The Rebels are aiming to extend their winning streak and improve their record ahead of SEC play.
