Ole Miss Men’s Track & Field Finishes Second at SEC Indoor Championships, Sets Program Record

The University of Mississippi men’s track and field team secured its best finish in program history at the SEC indoor championships, finishing second overall. The meet was held in Bryan-College Station, Texas, on Thursday, according to Ole Miss athletics.

The Rebels scored 67 points, initially tying their best-ever conference result before two disqualifications in the 4×400-meter relay dropped second-place Texas A&M to 66.2 points. Ole Miss’s relay team set a school record with a time of 3:06.69, earning the team a crucial point and moving the Rebels ahead of the Aggies for the runner-up spot. This finish matches Ole Miss’s second-place outdoor finish in 1984, marking a historic achievement for the program.

Ole Miss senior Alicia Burnett made history for the women’s team, winning the SEC 60-meter dash title with a time of 7.08 seconds. Her performance broke the Ole Miss school record, tied the SEC meet record, and ranked her No. 10 all-time in collegiate history. Burnett now leads the NCAA in the event and ranks No. 2 nationally and No. 9 worldwide for the season.

On the men’s side, All-American senior Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan defended his shot put title, earning his 11th career SEC crown. He also completed his third consecutive sweep of the shot put and weight throw, earning the SEC Cliff Harper Trophy for the third straight year. Robinson-O’Hagan’s winning throw measured 20.67 meters (67-9.75), improving his final round effort and securing the victory by nearly two feet.

Junior Akaoma Odeluga also delivered a standout performance, finishing second in the women’s shot put with a career-best throw of 18.69 meters (61-4). Her mark ranks second in Ole Miss history and 13th in collegiate indoor history, with her season rankings including third nationally and fourth among Americans. Her efforts contributed to the Rebels’ historic team finish.

Other notable performances included Chase Rose and Max Armstrong in the men’s 800-meter, Evan Thornton-Sherman and John Shoemaker in the men’s mile, and Sterling Scott and Kyle Johnson in the men’s triple jump. The men’s 4×400-meter relay team set a school record, helping secure second place overall. The Rebels will now prepare for the NCAA indoor championships, scheduled to be held at the University of Arkansas.

The final team scores had Arkansas in first with 113.2 points, followed by Ole Miss with 67, and Texas A&M in third with 66.2. The Ole Miss women finished eighth with 38.5 points, led by Burnett’s historic win.
