Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Upsets No. 14 South Carolina
Columbia, S.C. — Ole Miss men’s tennis earned its second top-15 victory in less than a week Sunday, beating No. 14 South Carolina 5-3 at the Carolina Indoor Tennis Center.
The Rebels (15-4, 3-4 SEC) previously defeated No. 11 Vanderbilt on March 8, their highest-ranked win since 2021. They continued their successful streak by topping the Gamecocks, who entered the match with a 10-5 record.
Ole Miss took an early lead by winning the doubles point. The No. 63 duo of Stefano D’Agostino and Pietro Pampanin defeated South Carolina’s No. 24 pair 6-3, followed by Benjamin Martin and Matthieu Chambonniere’s 6-4 victory over Swaine and Henceroth.
In singles, the Rebels fought off a South Carolina rally. Vlado Jankanj quickly put Ole Miss ahead with a 6-1, 6-2 win. South Carolina responded with a victory from No. 100 Paul Barbier Gazeu, who beat Pampanin 6-3, 6-2.
With the match tied at 3-3, Noah Schlagenhauf clinched the victory for Ole Miss by defeating Gabe Avram 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 on court five. D’Agostino then secured an upset over No. 16 Lucas da Silva, winning 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.
The Rebels will next face Georgia on March 20 at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford.
