Ole Miss edges Mississippi State 68-67 in SEC showdown
Mississippi State fell to Ole Miss 68-67 Saturday night at Humphrey Coliseum. The game was a tight contest that went into the final seconds.
The first half was physical, with Mississippi State leading 30-27 at halftime. Ole Miss took its first lead early in the second half before the game remained neck-and-neck until the final moments.
With Ole Miss ahead 51-47, Mississippi State rallied behind back-to-back three-pointers from Josh Hubbard and Ja’Borri McGhee. Jamarion Davis-Fleming tied the game at 59-59 at the free throw line with 3:29 remaining.
Ole Miss scored five straight points before Davis-Fleming dunked to make it 64-61 with two minutes left. Hubbard hit a three-pointer to cut the Rebels’ lead to 66-65 with 1:00 remaining. Hubbard then made two free throws to put Mississippi State ahead 67-66 with 34.7 seconds left.
Ole Miss responded with a basket with 19 seconds to go, which proved to be the game’s decisive shot. The Rebels held on for the win despite a strong effort from the Bulldogs.
Jayden Epps led Mississippi State with 14 points. Hubbard scored 13 points with five assists, while Davis-Fleming added 13 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks. Sergej Macura contributed nine points and 11 rebounds. Despite outrebounding Ole Miss 46-43, the Bulldogs came up short.
Mississippi State will travel to Texas A&M on Wednesday for a 8 p.m. game, which will be televised on the SEC Network.
