Ole Miss’ Cotie McMahon earns USA TODAY Honorable Mention All-American honors
NEW YORK — Cotie McMahon of Ole Miss women’s basketball was named an Honorable Mention All-American by USA TODAY on Wednesday, the school announced. This is the fourth time she has received All-American honorable mention recognition, but her first from USA TODAY.
The Dayton, Ohio, native is the first Rebel to earn this honor since Madison Scott was named a WBCA Honorable Mention All-American last season. A total of 15 players received votes from USA TODAY sports staff members Heather Burns, Meghan Hall, Cydney Henderson and Mitchell Northam.
McMahon, who recently made the Cheryl Miller Final Five list, the Wooden Award National Ballot and the Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Women’s College Player of the Year Late-Season Team, has earned more than 21 individual honors this season. She is the SEC Newcomer of the Year and a First Team All-SEC selection.
In her single season at Ole Miss, McMahon has averaged 19.9 points on 45.1% shooting, along with 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Her scoring has increased during SEC play, with averages of 21.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 33.4 minutes per game. She has scored 675 points this season, the fifth-most by a Rebel in a single campaign.
McMahon has scored 20 or more points in 19 games, tying Bianca Thomas (2009-10) for the second-most such performances in program history. Ole Miss and McMahon will learn their postseason fate during the NCAA Tournament selection show on March 15 at 7 p.m. CT.
