Ole Miss Baseball shuts out Ohio State behind Townsend’s career-high nine strikeouts

HOUSTON, Texas — Cade Townsend struck out a career-high nine batters in five scoreless innings, leading No. 25 Ole Miss to an 8-0 victory over Ohio State on Saturday morning. The Rebels recorded their first shutout of the season, their first since defeating LSU in the 2025 SEC Tournament.

Townsend, a sophomore, allowed just three hits and issued one walk. He struck out four batters in the first two innings and kept runners from reaching third base throughout his outing. Townsend earned his first win of the season, improving to 1-0.

Dom Decker led the Rebels at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and three runs scored. It was his first multi-home run game. Brett Moseley entered as a defensive substitute in the seventh and hit a grand slam in the eighth, his first career home run, to cap the scoring. Taylor Rabe pitched the final four innings for Ole Miss, striking out seven batters and earning his first save of the season.

The Rebels built a 3-0 lead by the fifth inning, with Decker hitting a solo shot in the third and his second home run in the fifth. Collin Reuter added a solo homer in the fourth. Ole Miss’s offense continued to surge in the eighth, loading the bases and Moseley clearing them with his grand slam.

Ole Miss will face No. 9 Coastal Carolina in their final game of the BRUCE BOLT College Classic on Sunday at 10:05 a.m. Central Time.
