Ole Miss Baseball Opens 2026 Season with Win Over Nevada
Oxford, Miss. — Ole Miss baseball started the 2026 season with an 11-3 victory over Nevada on Friday night at Swayze Field. The Rebels improved to 1-0, extending their winning streak in season openers to six games, dating to 2021, according to team officials.
Head coach Mike Bianco earned his 950th career win with the victory, the program reported. The Rebels’ offense was led by Tristan Bissetta, who went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Bissetta was one of six players to record a hit, and he contributed three RBIs, including a bases-clearing double in the first inning.
Starting pitcher Hunter Elliott, a recent All-American, picked up the win by throwing five innings. He struck out seven batters, the most by a Rebel pitcher in a season opener since 2023, and allowed only three hits, two walks, and one earned run, according to Ole Miss officials.
Judd Utermark reached base three times and scored three runs, tying his career high and marking the first time a Rebel has scored three runs in a season opener since 2018. Brett Moseley, in his first collegiate at-bat, hit a 403-foot home run, providing Ole Miss with its first long ball of the season.
After Nevada cut the lead to 7-3 in the sixth inning, Ole Miss responded with additional runs, including a RBI single from Hayden Federico and a home run from Moseley. The Rebels maintained their lead and closed the game with a solid effort from reliever Hudson Calhoun, who earned his first career save as the team prepares for two more games against Nevada this weekend.
The next matchups are scheduled for Saturday at noon and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Both games will be streamed on SECN+. Ole Miss will continue its season with a busy schedule of non-conference games, including matchups against Baylor, Ohio State, and Texas, according to the team’s full schedule.
