Ole Miss Baseball Falls to No. 2 Texas in Austin Series

Ole Miss baseball lost the series finale against Texas 8-2 Sunday afternoon in Austin, according to the university’s athletics department.

Texas scored two runs before an out was recorded in the bottom of the first inning. A dropped foul ball by Austin Fawley allowed a Longhorn to reach base, and Carson Tinney hit a two-run homer over the batter’s eye, making it 2-0. Texas added another run in the second inning and three more in the fourth, with a two-RBI home run extending the lead to 6-0 after four innings.

The Rebels responded in the fifth inning, with Fawley opening the frame with a double and later scoring on a wild pitch. Judd Utermark drove him in with a single through the left side. Texas scored two more runs in the sixth inning, both with two outs and aided by an error on the mound. Ole Miss scored its second run in the top of the seventh, with Fawley reaching second on an error and scoring on Brayden Randle’s double.

Ole Miss, now 16-5 overall and 1-2 in SEC play, will host Austin Peay on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Swayze Field. The team continues its schedule with upcoming games against Kentucky and Mississippi State, among others, according to their full schedule.
