Ole Miss Baseball Beats Nevada to Win Series Opener at Swayze Field

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss baseball claimed its first series win of the 2026 season after defeating Nevada 5-1 Saturday at Swayze Field, according to team officials.

The Rebels (2-0) extended their undefeated start, a feat they have achieved in five of the past six seasons. They recorded 11 hits and hit three home runs in the game. Ole Miss pitchers struck out 25 batters in the first two games of the season, including double-digit strikeouts in each contest.

Freshman pitcher Cade Townsend delivered a career-best performance, working 4.2 innings with eight strikeouts, one earned run, and no walks, according to team reports. His dominance helped keep Nevada in check. The Rebels’ home runs came from Judd Utermark, Tristan Bissetta, and Tate Sirmans.

Utermark launched a 428-foot shot in the first inning to give Ole Miss an early 1-0 lead. Bissetta added his first home run in an Ole Miss uniform, a 415-foot blast that scored Dom Decker and extended the lead. Sirmans, in only his second career at-bat, hit a deep home run in his first game as a redshirt freshman.

Ole Miss reliever Taylor Rabe pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, earning his first career victory, while Landon Koenig closed the game with a strikeout in the ninth. The series concludes Sunday at 1:30 p.m. CT, with the game streamed on SEC Network+.
