Ole Miss Baseball beats Missouri State 11-6 in series opener

OXFORD, Miss. — No. 16 Ole Miss baseball defeated Missouri State 11-6 Friday night at Swayze Field, opening their series with a win. Austin Fawley’s grand slam and two home runs from Judd Utermark led the Rebels to the victory, their sixth of the season.

Fawley’s grand slam marked back-to-back games with a grand slam for Ole Miss, the first time since at least 2014 the team has achieved this feat in consecutive games. Utermark also hit his fourth and fifth home runs of the season, driving in three runs overall.

Junior left-hander Hunter Elliott pitched 4.2 innings, striking out five and earning a no-decision. Hudson Calhoun relieved and pitched 3.1 scoreless innings to earn his first win of 2026, striking out five Bears.

Ole Miss jumped to an early lead in the first inning, with Dom Decker doubling and Will Furniss driving in a run. Fawley’s two-out, 404-foot home run with the bases loaded extended the lead. Utermark followed with his fourth homer of the season in the second inning, giving the Rebels a 7-3 advantage.

The Bears cut into the lead with two runs in the fourth but Ole Miss responded with multiple RBIs from Collin Reuter and others. Utermark’s second home run of the game in the eighth inning sealed the final score. Landon Waters pitched a clean ninth inning to close out the game, striking out two.

The series continues Saturday with a game scheduled for 2 p.m. CT, streamed on SECN+.
