Oglethorpe edges Millsaps 74-66 in men’s basketball
Oglethorpe University defeated Millsaps 74-66 on Sunday inside the Dorough Fieldhouse. The Jaguars outscored the Majors in the paint and off turnovers to secure the win, with the bench contributing 34 points for Oglethorpe.
Millsaps (11-8, 2-6 Southern Athletic Association) received a strong performance from its bench, which added 43 points. Junior Davion James led with 14 points, including three three-pointers, and also grabbed six rebounds. Classmate Cameron Lumar scored 12 points with four three-pointers and recorded three steals. Senior Caleb Kent added 11 points and four rebounds, while junior Rodney Phillips Jr. led the team with 14 rebounds and scored seven points.
The game was tied at 27 with 1:29 remaining in the first half before Millsaps took a 31-29 lead at halftime. In the second half, Millsaps briefly took a two-point lead after a layup by Kent and back-to-back three-pointers from Lumar, tying the game at 55. Oglethorpe responded with a layup to go ahead 57-55 and maintained the advantage down the stretch.
Millsaps’ efforts to rally fell short as the Jaguars pulled away late, ultimately winning 74-66. The Majors will face Southwestern University Friday in Georgetown, Texas, with opening tip set for 7:30 p.m. Live video and stats will be available at gomajors.com.
