NWCC Tennis Teams Fall to Top-Ranked Coastal Alabama-South
The Northwest Mississippi Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams faced tough losses against top-15 ranked Coastal Alabama-South on March 5. The women’s team, ranked 13th, was swept 9-0, while the men’s team, ranked 11th, fell 8-1, according to school officials.
Despite the team results, the women’s doubles team of Claudia Lopez Chaparro and Laura Cámara Blanco claimed the only victory for NWCC, defeating Neda Kocyte and Jescimiel Mabiongo 8-6 in a close match. Kocyte and Mabiongo had won three straight matches before the loss, ending their winning streak.
On the men’s side, Jordan Mitchell and Holden Cooke played a competitive doubles match against Coastal Alabama-South’s Nils Guyot and Milan Olganon, losing in a 7-5 tiebreak. This match was part of a busy schedule for NWCC, which played four matches in five days, including three in two days.
The teams aim to rebound and gain momentum before the spring break break, according to school officials. The next matches will be crucial as NWCC looks to improve its record heading into the postseason.
