NWCC Baseball Completes Sweep with 10-1 Win Over Missouri State-West Plains

Millington, Tenn. — The Northwest Mississippi Community College baseball team improved to 3-0 with a 10-1 win over Missouri State University-West Plains on Saturday at USA Stadium.

After two close games on Friday, the Rangers dominated the series finale. A key moment came in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Northwest scored seven runs to take a commanding 7-1 lead. The team added one run in the sixth and two in the seventh.

The Grizzlies scored their only run in the top of the fourth. Northwest relied on two pitchers to secure the victory. Tyce Powers, making his first start of the season, pitched four innings, allowing two hits, one run, and striking out six. Caleb Doty relieved Powers in the fifth and threw three scoreless innings, permitting one hit and earning the win.

Hallas Lawson led Northwest at the plate, going 3-for-4 and falling one triple shy of hitting for the cycle. Preston Johnson and Barrett McKenney also homered for the Rangers. Johnson’s home run came in his first at-bat as a Ranger. Evan Lightsey and John Whit Snopek each contributed doubles, and Davis Miller recorded his first career hit with a single.

The Rangers also excelled at taking free bases, with five players reaching via walks, four via hit-by-pitch, and three stealing bases. Northwest will host No. 21 Lake Land for a series beginning Thursday at 2 p.m. at Jim Miles Field. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Friday.
