Northwestern State Dominates Alcorn 13-2 in Seven-Inning Game

Northwestern State defeated Alcorn 13-2 in a seven-inning game Tuesday at Brown-Stroud Field in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The Demons scored four runs in the second inning and five in the fourth to take control early, according to the school.

The Braves took an early 1-0 lead in the second when Rayfield Adams III drove in Chase Moore, who had walked. Northwestern State responded immediately, scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning against Alcorn starter José Cherena. Michael McAloose’s two-run double highlighted the rally, which also included a throwing error by Cherena and a sacrifice fly by Zach White.

The Demons added two more runs in the third inning on a groundout by Mason Wray and an error by Moore. In the fourth, Bryce Johnson hit a three-run homer to deep left field, his second of the season, extending the lead to 11-1. Wray later scored on a wild pitch, capping a five-run inning.

Alcorn scored once in the fifth on a single by Friedman that drove in Kanious Davis. The Demons responded with two runs in the sixth to reach the 13-2 final. Chase Prestwich earned the win in relief, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings, while Logan Trotter finished the game with seven consecutive outs.

For Alcorn, Cherena took the loss after allowing four runs in two innings. Adams led the Braves offensively, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Friedman added a run-scoring single in the fifth. The Braves finished with six hits and stranded nine runners. Henry Allred pitched effectively out of the bullpen, retiring all three batters he faced in the fifth with three strikeouts.

Alcorn begins Southwestern Athletic Conference play Friday, facing Alabama A&M in Huntsville, Alabama. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., according to the school.
