Northwest Mississippi Softball Sweeps Meridian with Walk-Off Wins
The Northwest Mississippi Community College softball team improved to 14-9 overall and 6-2 in conference play with a pair of walk-off wins Saturday at home, defeating Meridian Community College in both games of the doubleheader.
In the first game, Northwest rallied from a 3-0 deficit and later from 5-3 to win 8-5. The Rangers scored three runs in the fifth inning, including a two-out, two-run double from Londen Armstrong that tied the game. The game ended when Sela Mancini hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh.
Meridian took an early lead in the opener, but Northwest responded quickly. Pitcher Meredith Dearman held the Eagles scoreless after the first inning, allowing just one hit over the final six frames. Mancini praised Dearman’s effort, noting her performance boosted team confidence.
In the second game, Northwest scored six runs in the first inning and coasted to a 12-4 run-rule victory in five innings. The Rangers’ bats remained hot, with Mancini and Ava Claire Rhoden leading the offense. Catelyn Brown earned her third win of the season, pitching a five-inning complete game.
Northwest will next travel to face East Mississippi Community College on the road, with games scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. Streaming information is available on the team’s website. The Rangers are set to play four consecutive away games next week.
