The #20 Northwest Mississippi Community College baseball team earned an important doubleheader sweep over Hinds Community College on Saturday at Jim Miles Field. The Rangers won the first game 11-6 and secured the second game 10-7, moving into a tie for second place in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference standings.

Northwest’s victory in the first game was powered by a strong offensive performance. Barrett McKenney hit his eighth home run of the season in the first inning, driving in two runs. Tyce Powers pitched into the sixth inning, allowing three runs, to earn his longest outing of the season. The Rangers added an insurance run in the fourth, then broke open the game with a six-run fifth inning, highlighted by a double from Mason McMillin.

Hinds responded with runs in the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings but could not overcome the early deficit. Connor Sullivan pitched a perfect ninth to earn his third save of the season. The Rangers improved to 26-13 overall and 13-5 in conference play with the win.

In the second game, Northwest again jumped out early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Mason McMillin hit his team-leading 12th home run of the season, a three-run blast. The Eagles cut into the lead with a three-run homer in the second but could not catch up. The Rangers added to their lead in the third and fifth innings, holding on for a 10-7 victory. Connor Young earned the win in relief, helping Northwest complete the sweep and improve to 26-13 overall.

The Rangers will now travel next week for two key series. They will face Holmes Community College on Tuesday and then meet #23 Copiah-Lincoln Community College on Saturday, with both series crucial in the race for the conference title, according to team sources.
