No. 6 Mississippi State Sweeps No. 18 Ole Miss in Oxford

OXFORD, Miss. — The No. 6 Mississippi State baseball team completed a series sweep at No. 18 Ole Miss on Sunday, winning 7-1 at Swayze Field. The Bulldogs used power hitting and strong pitching to dominate the Rebels and extend their recent winning streak in the rivalry.

Mississippi State took an early lead in the first inning when Aidan Teel doubled and Ace Reese hit a two-run homer to right field. Ole Miss responded with a run in the bottom half, but it was their only score of the game. The Bulldogs’ pitching staff took control afterward, with Duke Stone earning his fifth win of the season by pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and striking out eight.

Relievers Ben Davis and Dane Burns combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings, limiting Ole Miss to three hits. MSU extended its lead in the fourth inning with a solo homer from Jacob Parker and a two-run blast from Andrew Raymond. Mississippi State added a run in the fifth on an RBI single from Reed Stallman and capped the scoring in the ninth with Kevin Milewski’s solo shot to center.

At the plate, Teel led with two hits and two runs scored. Reese drove in two runs with his first-inning homer. The Bulldogs finished with four home runs among nine hits. Ole Miss struggled offensively, leaving 14 runners on base and leaving the bases loaded four times, unable to capitalize against Mississippi State’s pitching.

The victory secures a series sweep for Mississippi State, marking the ninth time in the last 10 series that the Bulldogs have defeated their in-state rival. Mississippi State’s overall record improves to 24-4, with a 7-2 mark in SEC play, while Ole Miss falls to 19-10, 3-6 in conference play.
