CLINTON, Miss. — The Delta State women’s tennis team lost 7-0 to No. 6 Mississippi College on Tuesday at the MC Tennis Complex.
The Choctaws secured the doubles point with 6-1 wins on courts one and two. Amelia Ciesielczyk and Trinity Ly lost at No. 1, while Anastasi Iakovlieva and Lena Kuehn were defeated at No. 2. Play on court three was unfinished, with Yasmina Mayer and Angie Moreno trailing 5-1.
Mississippi College carried its momentum into singles, sweeping all six courts. Ciesielczyk fell 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1. Ly lost 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2. Mayer pushed her opponent in both sets at No. 3 before falling 6-4, 6-3. Iakovlieva forced a first-set tiebreak but was defeated 7-6 (8), 6-0. Moreno lost 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, and Lena Kuehn completed the sweep with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
Delta State remains on the road later this week, facing Auburn University at Montgomery in Gulf South Conference play.
