No. 6 Jones College sweeps East Mississippi with dominant pitching and timely hitting
ELLISVILLE, Miss. — No. 6 Jones College defeated East Mississippi in a doubleheader Saturday at Community Bank Park, outscoring the Lions 16-1 over two games. The Bobcats improved to 37-8 overall and 16-4 in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.
In the first game, Jones took control early, scoring a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Mary Kimble Price. The Bobcats added two runs in the third, highlighted by an RBI single from Madison Sawyer and an unearned run following an error. A four-run fourth inning extended the lead, with Laney Little scoring on a throwing error, Mabry Eason adding an RBI-single, and Annaston Tate hitting a two-run double for a 7-0 lead.
Jones finished with 10 hits and capitalized on five East Mississippi errors. Sawyer earned her 16th win of the season, striking out nine over 4.2 innings and allowing two hits. Morgan Landry and Abigail Lindsey combined for a three-hit shutout, with the staff recording 12 strikeouts overall.
The Bobcats carried momentum into the second game, scoring two runs in the second inning on RBIs from Marlee Dampeer and Laney Little. They added two more in the third, including an RBI-double by Addy Shorter. East Mississippi responded with a run in the fourth on a sacrifice bunt by RaMiyah Price, but Little’s three-run homer in the same inning pushed the lead to 8-1. Shorter added an RBI-single, and Tate’s RBI in the sixth ended the game via run rule.
Breelyn Cain earned the win, allowing one run on two hits over 4.2 innings. Anna Grace Whitehead finished the game on the mound for Jones. The Bobcats’s strong pitching and timely hitting secured the sweep, leaving East Mississippi with only one run scored in the doubleheader.
